Color Choices for Your Window Treatments

Designer Screen Shades

Did you know that, each year, color experts choose a “Color of the Year”? It’s what they predict will be the “hot” color for the following year, and most industries (including the automotive industry, clothing fashions, and window treatments) use that color in some variation in their upcoming products. At Blinds & Designs serving San Francisco, we’re always happy to introduce our customers to the new trends, and we thought it’d be fun for you to take a look back at the colors that influenced the past several years. Read on to learn more!

Past Colors of the Year

With color, there’s no “right” or “wrong” choice—it’s all opinion and what resonates with you. However, the experts in color—the people from the Pantone Color Institute—are skilled at looking at what people are moving toward and what the emotional undercurrent is in our county to identify what they believe will become popular. Here are some of the colors that were declared “trending” in the past:

  • 2016: Rose Quartz and Serenity. In 2016, the Color Institute offered up not just one but TWO trending forecasted colors. Rose Quartz and Serenity, known for their calm and peaceful aura, were forecasted to replicate how we would want to feel in the following months.
  • 2017: Greenery. Reminiscent of the first day of spring, this yellow-green, snow pea color “is the color of hopefulness and of our connection to nature. It speaks to what we call the ‘re’ words: regenerate, refresh, revitalize, renew.”
  • 2018: Ultra Violet. Ultra Violet is provocative and visionary. Long a symbol of unconventionality, Ultra Violet has always been considered a mystical or spiritual color.

The 2019 Color of the Year

The Color Institute has not yet released their prediction for 2019, but we’re sure looking forward to finding out. Check out the blog in the upcoming weeks—we’ll be sure to announce it for you.
