Time for Spring Cleaning!
If you haven’t started it yet (and especially if you’ve been putting it off!), now’s the time to get going on some springtime prep for your home. At Blinds & Designs serving Marin County, we have a few suggestions for what to put on your list. Read on!
Cleaning and Maintenance
Now is a great time to tackle some big tasks, as well as some of those everyday chores you might have been neglecting. For example, you could clean out your garage to get rid of both junk and gunk from your car. Reorganize your basement or storage area with the same goal in mind (minus the car gunk). Change the batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. And get up on your roof to take care of your gutters and downspouts, which might be clogged with leaves, muck, and other debris. Once you’ve cleared the foreign material from the gutters, be sure the downspouts send the water at least five feet from the structure of your home.
Give Your Windows Some Love
Grime from weather could have accumulated on your windows over time, and you might not have even noticed it, so take some time to get both the inside and outside of your glass clean. If your windows are too high for you to safely reach outside, consider hiring a professional to help you in this task. And once the glass is clean, be sure to do some maintenance on your window treatments to keep them in tip-top shape. You can dust standard blinds and shades, and use the brush attachment of your vacuum on treatments like Silhouette® Sheer Shades. For cellular shades like Duette® Honeycomb Shades, use compressed air to get rid of the dust and dirt. If you have aluminum or faux wood blinds like Everwood® Alternative Wood Blinds or Modern Precious Metals® Aluminum Blinds, you can take them down from the frame and clean them with lukewarm water in a bathtub or sink. When you’ve washed them, reinstall the treatments while they’re damp, lowering them so they can completely dry.
