Pantone 2023 Color of the Year Viva Magenta in Interior Design

Like many things, color can trend. Perhaps you’ve noticed in past years that seemingly different things were all similar colors—your stand mixer, hairbrush, and favorite sweater all were the same hue. Much of that comes down to the Pantone Color Institute, which identifies trends and helps people understand the power of color. At Blinds & Designs here in Marin County, we’re fascinated by how color choice is impacted by the world around us—and how it can impact our selections in our home. Read on to learn what the Pantone Color Institute can teach us this year!

Trending Color in 2023

The Pantone Color Institute gauges color trends, selects the Color of the Year, and advises businesses on product and visual identity colors. To decide on the Color of the Year, they weigh current climate, past behaviors, and past trends to determine what they expect the upcoming year will hold. This year, the color they think reflects our current landscape and needs the most is Viva Magenta, which “vibrates with vim and vigor” and is a “nuanced crimson tone” that balances cool with warm. Pantone notes that the color is “an unconventional shade for an unconventional time,” adding that it is “an animated red that encourages experimentation and self-expression without restraint.” If this resonates with you, you might want to add this bright hue to your home or everyday life. See below for some ideas.

Because Pantone selects a color that reflects trends across numerous industries—including fashion, beauty, technology, design, and home décor—you’ll be seeing Viva Magenta all around in the very near future. If you’re looking to bring this bold color into your home, one of the best ways is through custom drapery or side panels. At the Hunter Douglas Design Studio™, you can find a variety of fabrics in numerous colors and textures that can mimic or complement the hue. Our specialists will also be happy to help you find just the right pop. And don’t forget the accessories, such as décor and artwork, which can help you bring Viva Magenta into your home in smaller amounts. A good foundation for those pops of color would be a neutral window treatment—consider the popular Duette® Cellular Shade in a neutral tone. The benefit is that you’ll also get great insulation at the window. No matter your goal, you’re bound to find the right treatment to meet it. Start today!
