2016 Year’s Forecasted Colors

2015 Colors of the yearAt Blinds & Designs in San Francisco, we’re always excited to hear about the Color of the Year. And this year, we’re twice as excited because there are TWO! Introducing Rose Quartz and Serenity, which Pantone forecasts to trend in industries from fashion to interior design. If you’re interested in adding these beautiful colors to your home’s palette, speak with one of our trained consultants today.

About the Colors

A lovely pinkish hue, Rose Quartz brings warmth and tenderness. From the blue family, Serenity connotes tranquility and wellness. Together, these shades evoke feelings of connection and a relief to stress. Further, the Pantone Color Institute notes that the two colors reflect a cultural shift toward gender equality. The People Who Choose the Forecasted Colors

Twice a year, the Color Marketing Group (the color/trend forecasters and home décor and fashion designers) meet and decide what the colors will be for the next two years. Before they meet, they must study past trends and forecast future ones. The process goes to show that color is not a designer’s whim. Color trends come from where we are, where we want to go, and how people are feeling or not feeling.

What Happens With the Forecasted Colors

Industries such as fashion, home furnishings, hospitality, and automotive follow forecasted trends in the products they create for the marketplace. They might not use the exact color, however; each industry might adjust the color to their area and products. For instance, in a warmer climate, the colors may be made lighter, and in a cooler climate, they may be made slightly darker than the actual forecasted color.

Even though the above colors will lead the pack this year, that doesn’t mean you have to like them. If you don’t, wait a year, and new ones will be out. Remember that trends are just that—trends!
