Roman shades are one of the oldest window coverings on the market, getting their name from being developed during Roman times. Traditional Roman shades are made out of fabric and use a pull cord to raise and lower the shade. Because of the cords, Roman shades are not necessarily child and pet safe, and have some stylistic challenges. Our clients throughout the Marin County and San Francisco areas also tell us they don’t like the look of the cords running vertically on the back of the shade or the bulky stack of fabric at the top when they’re raised.
