Design Studio™ Draperies & Roman Shades

At Blinds & Designs serving Marin County, we know that many people struggle with determining how to create coordinating looks with their window treatment purchases. That’s why we’re pleased to point our customers to The Design Studio tool from Hunter Douglas. If you’ve got questions about how to create a great look for your home, start with The Design Studio!

An Easy-to-Follow Process

In the Design Studio, Hunter Douglas offers “The Art of Layering at the Window,” a handy tool that our customers just love. With this guide, you can follow a clear, step-by-step process that includes options for “perfect pairings,” fabric folios, and suggested combinations for various product lines.

  • First Step. First, select your base layer, the product that will go directly against the window. For example, choose a blind, shade, or shutter. This layer is for light control and energy efficiency at the window, and you can choose solid or textured, neutral or colored materials. Hunter Douglas options you might choose include Designer Banded Shades, Duette® Honeycomb Shades, Provenance® Woven Wood Shades, and more..
  • Second Step. Choose a customized second layer, including fabrics that add drama, depth, and style. You can select from the core Design Studio line or from the featured artist collection (right now highlighting selections from textile designer Rebecca Atwood), finding selections that will coordinate or complement what you already chose.
  • Finishing Touch. Finally, consider a side panel or drapery as an additional layer. Remember that drapery can fully cover the window, providing additional light and privacy control, while side panels frame the window to add dimension and beauty.

Pairing Suggestions

If you want suggestions for coordinating with tone-on-tone looks for neutrals, colors, or textures or if you’re looking for suggestions for contrasts with color or patterns, to bring out an accent color in the room, to highlight a color from a patterned undertreatment, or to add a color that you just love, don’t worry. Hunter Douglas offers numerous suggestions. You can also browse through the “folios” of fabrics that will work well together. Folio collections include titles such as “all about white,” “gray infinity,” “harvest comfort,” or “seaside retreat.” Or you can search through the textiles in the featured artist series, which pair well with numerous existing Hunter Douglas options.
