Louver Sizes

Hunter Douglas shutters can be designed with 2-1/2″, 3-1/2″, or 4-1/2″ louvers. Sometimes, louver size is just a matter of personal preference—with all shutters, you can get great visibility and light and privacy control just by slightly adjusting the louver angle. That said, to get the most of a beautiful view, a larger louver is the better choice. As you make your choice, remember that, no matter the louver size, shutters offer curb appeal from the outside of your home. Beyond that, when you decide on the louver size for your shutters, consider the design style of your home, the view outside, and how much natural lighting you want. Keep in mind, smaller louver sizes may look heavy and congested in the window, where a larger louver size can add aesthetic value to a room. Here are some tips regarding the various sizes:

  • Louvers – A narrower width, this louver offers a more traditional look, especially in windows that are three feet high or less. However, you don’t have to get this size just because it’s a smaller window.
  • Louvers – The most requested of all louver sizes, this one offers a great deal of view-through and natural light. This is an ideal size if the majority of your windows are 36″ high or greater. Keep in mind, you can still use this louver size on smaller windows as well.
  • Louvers – This large louver size presents the greatest view-through, so it’s great for preserving a beautiful panorama. This is a good size to choose for taller windows and rooms with oversized ceiling heights.
