At the end of the day, it’s nice to just relax and unwind, letting the stress of work or school or whatever else melt away. But what if your home doesn’t offer that relaxation zone you crave? Don’t worry. At Blinds & Designs serving Marin County, we have a few ideas for how to shape your home into that place where you can unwind. Check them out in this post!

Creating a Refuge in Your Home

Everyday life can feel like chaos sometimes, but getting a breather from it shouldn’t have to be a hardship. In fact, it can often just boil down to some decoration choices. For example:

  • Find calm from the clutter. Any form of clutter could be subconsciously impacting how relaxed you feel. Clearing your clutter can help bring about a more calming atmosphere. Use decorative boxes, baskets, or soft space cubes to store (and hide) things like mail or paperwork. Pare down your décor to only the items you really love—and consider keeping those that remind you of your happiest times. Photos of friends and loved ones can bring a greater sense of happiness to your space—particularly if you aren’t able to see those people all the time. Good memories can help you feel more at ease.
  • Neutrals tend to soften the vibe. It’s pretty clear that bright colors increase the vibe. Which means that the opposite is true for the neutral ones. If you’re looking to unwind, a neutral palette with milder colors can create a greater sense of relaxation. And if you’re thinking that neutrals are boring, stop! You can spruce them up with pops of color in specific areas to brighten the tone, and you can add texture in things like comfy blankets, area rugs, and artwork to create additional visual interest.
  • Natural light for the vitamin D. Natural sunlight is good for our bodies, as well as our mental health. So let window treatments enhance the natural light in your space to help create a welcoming having. Look to Silhouette® Window Shadings, Pirouette® Window Shadings, or Designer Banded Shades from Hunter Douglas for great light diffusion, and consider the tilting power of Heritance® Hardwood Shutters for light control. Or, for full sunlight with privacy, look at the top-down/bottom-up operation available on many Hunter Douglas treatments.
