Discover the Color(s) of the Year

Pantone Trending Colors 2021

At Blinds & Designs serving Marin County, we know that many of our customers want to explore color for their homes but just don’t know “what works.” If you’re feeling overwhelmed by all the options, one thing you could do is check out the annual Pantone Color of the Year, which informs color in a variety of industries, from fashion to automotive. This year, the Institute has selected a pair of colors, which are said to bring sunshine and positivity to the year. Read on to learn more!

The 2021 Colors

This year’s colors are PANTONE 17-5104 Ultimate Gray and PANTONE 13-0647 Illuminating (a bright yellow), a combination of warm and cool tones. “The selection of two independent colors highlights how different elements come together to express a message of strength and hopefulness that is both enduring and uplifting,” noted Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute. The colors are a “marriage of strength and optimism”: The gray evokes a sense of solid and dependable natural elements, and the yellow is bright, cheerful, and vivacious, evoking a sense of the solar power of the sun.

How to Use These Colors

These colors will set a clear mood in your space and convey a welcoming message of vitality. Add a little or a lot through accents such as bedding, tableware, and throw pillows. You can always paint a wall or two—in a home office, for example, these colors would heighten awareness and enhance intuition as well as intellectual curiosity, originality, and resourcefulness. And the windows offer another arena for these colors—consider adding coordinating side panels to your current window fashions. You can find great fabric choices in the Design Studio™ from Hunter Douglas—check out Gray-wood or Storm Grays in Rebecca Atwood’s collection, Saffron in the Transcend collection, or Fresco in the Wilson collection.

How to Deal With Trending Colors

These two colors will lead the way in 2021. If you want some ideas about how to bring them into your home, be sure to speak with one of our consultants. And if you don’t like these colors, wait a year, and new ones will be out. Remember trends are just that—passing fads!
