Window Shades for a Good Night’s Sleep

Duette® Honeycomb Shades with LightLock™

Getting the right amount of sleep is crucial to health and well-being—and even just to function well in normal day-to-day situations. However, many of us sleep in rooms that aren’t dark enough for us to get a good night’s sleep. At Blinds & Designs serving San Francisco, we can help you find the right bedroom window treatment that can make your room dark enough for long-lasting ZZZs. Options That Improve a Room’s Darkness

Every Hunter Douglas window covering provides some measure of light control, depending on the fabric and color you select, light gaps, seams, and rout holes. Recently, Hunter Douglas introduced the LightLock™ system, which blocks the side light with the Duette® Honeycomb Shade. For wood and aluminum blinds, ask for the de-Light™ feature, which eliminates the rout holes. Here are some other ideas for products that will work well in a bedroom:

  • To block light. If total darkness is what you want, then you need to select a window covering that has “true” blackout materials in the collection. You may want to consider mounting your blinds or shades on the outside of your window frame to minimize the light gap. Options to explore include roller shades, shutters, and Modern Precious Metals® Aluminum Blinds.
  • For room-darkening results. Semi-opaque and opaque materials almost completely block out the light. We say “almost” because, if you select these fabrics, they do a good job darkening a room, but do not entirely eliminate light. Window coverings that offer room-darkening materials include Silhouette® Window Shadings, Duette® Honeycomb Shades, and Pirouette® Window Shadings.
  • Add a liner. Another option for room-darkening capabilities is to add a liner to a selection of our shades, including designer roller shades, Provenance® Woven Woods, and Silhouette® Window Fashions.
