Recycled Fabrics Help Save Our Oceans

Sea-Tex™ Screen Shades

Conscious of the environment and on the lookout for sustainable solutions, Hunter Douglas, the leader in window treatment innovations, identified a partner to help them mix innovation with product sustainability. At Blinds & Designs serving San Francisco, we’re attuned to the needs of our oceans and are very proud of this new product from Hunter Douglas. Protecting Our Oceans From Waste

Plastics are infesting our oceans—they are a vast dumping ground for plastics—and, with currents and winds, these plastics often collect to become giant floating death traps for ocean life such as sea turtles, whales, and dolphins. Hunter Douglas partnered with Bionic®, a mission-driven materials-engineering company that has developed programs for coastal recycling in developing countries. This partnership means that Hunter Douglas can simultaneously create a new breed of fabric while cleaning up the oceans’ mess. Introducing GreenScreen® Sea-Tex™ Fabrics, derived from a yarn that Bionic creates from their collected plastics. That yarn is the key building block for fabrics used exclusively for Designer Screen Shades.

Features and Benefits of Designer Screen Shades

A very popular choice among Blinds & Designs customers, Designer Screen Shades protects furniture and flooring by blocking harmful UV rays. Plus, they provide privacy, view-through, and glare control while filtering natural sunlight.

Fabric Openness Level

The openness level of screen shades impacts the amount of light and privacy the shade provides but will not impact its style. The lower the percentage value, the tighter the weave. A 5% openness level, for example, allows more light and a clearer view, while a 1% openness level provides a more obscured view. The GreenScreen Sea-Tex fabrics come in five neutral tones in 3% openness.
