However, skylights can sometimes be a drawback because the direct overhead sunlight has a chance to cause damage to floors and furniture from the intense UV rays. Luckily, by using the right window treatment, you can enjoy the benefits of your skylight while reducing the drawbacks. You just need to follow a few key principles.

• Consider the needs of the space. Different rooms require different levels of light-blocking. In a bedroom, for example, you might want to block as much light as possible, while in a kitchen or sunroom, you might want to keep as much of that beautiful natural light as you can. • Think about preserving your flooring and furniture. UV rays can wreak havoc on floors, furniture, cabinets, and artwork.
